Hi! I'm Jesse.
I like to build things that help people.

I take a simple approach to getting the job done by delivering good outcomes for humans*

*Really all living creatures.

I'm all about client service

In my 10 years of small-business-ownership experience, I built lasting relationships with my clients by listening with care and delivering incredible value.

As a UX designer with a focus on implementation and delivery, I specialize in working with product owners, SMEs, and engineering teams to bridge the gap between concept and implementation; while centering the user at the heart of my work.

My story (at least what’s fit to print)

VoiceJungle

For 10 years, I helped bring thoughtful solutions to the VoiceJungle voice talent agency — a business with the unique idea to offer VO sessions and production services entirely online. Through a rapid, iterative approach, my team and I introduced features to empower customers, increase average order value, improve device compatibility, and bring contextual actions to users when they were needed most in the process.

Together we drove a constantly evolving product roadmap forward to deliver a delightful experience to VoiceJungle’s customers.

Sherber + Rad

Through a careful implementation strategy, we extended Sherber + Rad’s painstakingly crafted brick and mortar boutique into the digital space. Offering customers multiple ways to browse — including by brand, skin condition, or curated “expert edit” — required a thoughtful IA process. By focusing on the critical needs of the customers and the shop owners, we were able to design and deliver a digital experience that was easy to use, and simple to manage.

Aerial Adventure Tech

Boasting hundreds of products and serving professional outfitters, emergency service workers, and climbing enthusiasts, Aerial Adventure Tech must convey highly-detailed information without overwhelming their more casual audience. We worked together to ensure that the shopping experience provided critical information to consumers, while offering professionals and wholesalers an opportunity to dive more deeply into details like technical specifications and product certifications.

Note: More recently I’ve accepted a position on an amazing federal contracting team. I primarily perform product design for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Due to the confidential nature of our projects, I’m actually not entirely sure how much I’m allowed to showcase (!?)

Hmmmmm, actually, you know what? I’ll find out and then add whatever I can.

I'm all about civic service

Okay, so I know I said I’m all about client service up above, but I can be all about more than one thing, right? I think so. Anyways…

Since 2013, I’ve helped coordinate and lead volunteer civic technology teams, including as captain of Code for Asheville and as a core team member of Code for Charlottesville.

In my volunteer experience, I partnered with grass roots organizations to fight for better treatment of those experiencing housing instability, better resources for the formerly incarcerated, better policies to address racial disparities in the justice system, and improved government transparency.

I was awarded a 2018 Code for America Community Fellowship for my support of Professor Dwight Mullen’s State of Black Asheville project, which sought to analyze and address racial disparities across the social determinants of health.

"Thought leadership"

Very smart and thought-leader-y ideas design, business, and stuff we all deal with (or maybe it’s just me…)

Yes, these people exist. Yes, you'll have to deal with them. No...it doesn't have to be awful.
How to get your work across the finish line in style.
